Located on the Inland Waterway the structure transforms the imagery of yachts into building. As in "Scherzo Fantastique," which was composed as an abstract work, the music suggested traditional connections with the past.

Listening to Gubaidulena's 2017 "Tripelkonzert" is a musically dark experience. From the program ~ "spare, austere passages for the soloist alternate starkly with orchestral passages." This music inspired a brooding house which features a lookout and a pool reflecting a clear blue sky.

Inspired by Rachmaninoff's symphonic poem "Isle of the Dead", this setting depicts a faceted glass sanctuary which substitutes for the tall cypresses which stand at the center of the fabled island. As In the musical composition, the drawing departs from the painting by introducing a different theme, one which suggests eternal light in betrayal of eternal darkness.

Echoing the trunks and branches of trees, the structure and glazing frames of various laminated thicknesses surround and enclose three connected pavilions. Steel is inserted into the angular verticals for structural continuity. The house is set at the edge of a steep forest ravine and is entered from above as if entering through the forest canopy.

Echoing the spectacular karst formations along the Li River, the 18-story structure would be an embarkation point for travel down- river to Yangshuo. The roughly conical form would spread the building's weight over the weak limestone substructure of the region's site.

As unlikely as it was, Sinfonia da Requiem brought a reminder of the tropical fragrance of orange blossoms I knew growing up. This idea for a hotel, is inspired as much by the photograph below the sketch as the music I was hearing.

A 40-story hotel/residential tower west of the Hines Auditorium would provide parking, banquet and service functions above a retail arcade. Planned for a triangular site above the Mass Pike the tower would look west towards the Blue Hills and north towards the Charles River.

A folded metal roof supported by steel-framed metal screens shelters a small market on a sloping site near end of the Pali Hwy as it descends from the mountains.
The first house completed in 1986 was to be replaced by the second house in 2007. T1 was 1200sf. T2 is 1600sf.
